Gwangju FC vs FC Seoul player ratings - 02/03/24

Disastrous start for Seoul sees them crumble in Gwangju. What happened?

Choi Chul-won: (4) Surprised to see him start this one. Had a bit of a howler for the first goal and should have really kept it out. Not sure why he’s preferred to Baek.

Park Dong-jin: (5) Odd choice to have him in back in his old position at left back, and it didn’t really work out for him. Hopefully this isn’t a regular occurrence this year.

Kim Ju-sung: (5) Seemed to really struggle but didn’t have any real protection in front of him. Shaky at best.

Kwon Wan-kyu: (4) Caught out of position numerous times and doesn’t look up to standard.

Kim Jin-ya: (4) Really struggled with Gwangju’s new powerhouse Gabriel and was outmuscled at every opportunity. Felt sorry for him at times.

Ki Sung-yueng: (5) Didn’t have any real impact on the game and failed to protect the backline.

Han Seung-gyu: (4) Very poor today and looked out of his depth. Was initially excited to see him back in the starting line-up but failed to live up to expectations. Really hoping he can get back to the 2020 version of himself.

Aleksandar Palocevic: (4) Was really poor today and didn’t offer anything going forward.

Kang Seong-jin: (5) Made a couple of good runs early on but faded as the game went on.

Cho Young-wook: (4) Really poor today and anonymous. Will perhaps do better playing more centrally.

Kim Shin-jin (3) Absolutely dreadful in a surprise start for him up front. Seemed to be a golden child under the last few managers but hopefully this doesn’t continue this year.

Subs:

Stanislav Iljutcenko: (6) Got involved well and nearly scored with a powerful header. Hoping he starts up top next week.

Kim Kyeong-min: (4) Subbed in and then out again. Didn’t offer anything. Poor.

Lim Sang-hyub: (5) Didn’t make any real impact.

Lee Tae-seok: (5) Struggled to keep up with the pace and made some slack passes.

Jesse Lingard: (5) Blazed his first effort over the bar, miskicked his second and got a yellow for a silly challenge. Put in a couple of decent crosses beforehand, however.

Manager: (4) Thought he got the line-up completely wrong. Made some unusual changes throughout the game as well that could perhaps be described as ‘Ahn Ik-soo’esque’. Hopefully he can pin-point where he went wrong and make adjustments ahead of the Incheon game.
